Debunking the pro-abortion lie so many Christians have swallowed, “we need to reduce the need for abortion”

by Brian Kemper

I was reading an article a few years ago about the Personhood Amendment in Florida and how vehemently opposed Planned Parenthood was to this legislation.  The article was full of ridiculous statements and lies, as is anything that favors or quotes Planned Parenthood.

I found it funny that Planned Parenthood actually helped expose their own lies about birth control by admitting that the Personhood Amendment would outlaw chemical birth control.  If this is true then the pro-life claim that chemical birth control often destroys a human person in the form of a zygote before implantation must also be true.

I enjoyed Planned Parenthood confirming this fact, as well as labeling me an “anti-choice extremist”.  If the choice that I am “anti” is the choice of killing a baby, then I am as extreme as they come.

What I really want to focus on the lie that too many people have swallowed, including many Christians.  Here is a quote from the article by a Planned Parenthood representative:

“If representatives like Dennis Baxley and Scott Plakon were serious about reducing the number of abortions performed in Florida, they would oppose measures that ultimately ban abortion and do nothing to prevent unintended pregnancy, like the personhood amendment,” says Kunkel. “The only serious way to reduce the need for abortion is by expanding access to birth control and reducing the number of unintended pregnancies in Florida. This is a commonsense approach to reducing the need for abortion, something Planned Parenthood has been advocating for more than 90 years.”

The problem is that our goal isn’t merely just to reduce child killing; it is to END child killing.  As the slavery abolitionists wanted to abolish slavery, we want to abolish abortion.  Yes, we can reduce the numbers on our way to the goal of abolishing, but the end goal must always remain the same.

She then goes on to inject the most erroneous statement, “reduce the need for abortion”.  This statement makes my skin crawl. I am sickened by the fact that this twisted language has even made it into Christian circles.  I have heard Christians use this statement and I want to explode every time I hear it.

There is NO need for abortion! There never has been and there never will be.  Evil is evil and we never simply want to reduce it. Would anyone make the statement, “we want to reduce the need for rape?” NO! Would anyone make the statement “we want to reduce the need for slicing babies into pieces”? NO! The fact is that the word abortion itself is just a sanitized way of saying, “kill a baby”.

This is just another way the pro-abortion forces have won the rhetoric war and inject lies into our culture.  We must not accept or allow this kind of language to be used. It is harmless and poisonous to the pro-life movement.

The Planned Parenthood representative knew exactly what she was saying when she made those statements; she wanted to paint pro-lifers as monsters. No one wants to be an extremist these days (well almost no one – I don’t mind at all).  She also wants to come off as the true pro-lifer by saying that her plan is the only effective way of reaching our goal.  The problem is that we don’t have the same goal, and they really have no desire to reduce abortions.

If Planned Parenthood truly wanted to reduce abortion, why would they be building giant abortion super centers all over the country?  They seem to be planning to kill many more babies in the future or they would not be building the facilities to do so.

We must repudiate the lies that Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion lobby is injecting into our culture.  We must not allow them to redefine the goals of the pro-life movement, especially in the public forum.  We must make it very clear that there is never a need for killing babies, abortion is NEVER a necessary evil. We want to eliminate abortion, not just reduce it.
